Some locations make you want to create the moment you walk through the door. Glass Fern Studio, a charming little studio just outside of Lake Stevens, Washington, was one of those places.
After spending the day photographing my fall mini sessions, I left with so many ideas, stories, and little moments that reminded me why I love what I do.
Families and couples came to spend part of their day with me, and somehow, this tiny studio gave us room to create so many different things. Made from an assortment of vintage windows, Glass Fern is full of character. There was nothing boring about this space. Every corner felt like it had a story of its own, and I couldn't help imagining all the ways we could use it.
A Little Storybook Magic for an Expecting Family
If you've followed my work for a while, you might know that my mom often comes along on my mini session days. She's my second set of eyes, and as a fellow local Snohomish County artist, she notices things I might otherwise miss. Her ideas often add another layer to the stories we're telling through photographs.
During one of the maternity sessions, we came across a storybook tucked away in the studio. One idea led to another, and before long, we had the expecting couple reading to their sweet baby.
There's something so special about photographing these little moments. A book, two people, and a baby who hasn't even arrived yet. It's a simple scene, but it tells a story about the family they're already becoming.
Maternity photography doesn't always have to be about posing with your hands on your belly or looking at the camera. Sometimes, it's about imagining the little person you're about to meet and documenting the love that's already there.
And sometimes, all you need is a good storybook and a little creativity.
